Information Technology Badge.

This page is aimed at members of the 35th Bolton East trying to get their Information Technology Badge. As with all "Staged" badges you need to complete badge one before you move on to badge two.

Need Some Help? Ask a Leader Beaver - Cub - Scout

A good place to start would be the Scoutbase website, this tells you exactly what needs to be accomplished to complete each stage of the badge. To see the list of requirements click Here

The British Computer Society have created an online tool to help you as you progress through the badge (this can be found Here), This can also be very useful in helping you and your leaders track your progress through the badge. The rest of this page is devoted to guiding you through this process.

The first page simply asks you to choose you section (Beavers, Cubs.....). once you have done this you should see a page very similar to this....

Whatever you decide to put in these boxes I suggest you remember two things;

1) Your going to need to type in exactly the same thing next time you visit this site, otherwise it wont take you back to your own saved information.

2) This site will let you print a certificate at the end of every badge. (you' ll need this certificate as proof that you have completed the online stages of that badge), Because what you enter on here will go strait onto your certificate you need to make sure you spell everything correctly and as you want it to appear on your certificate. If you unsure of your troop name it should be written on the name tape on right arm of your uniform

for example

Name; Benjamin Colley

Troop Name; 35th Bolton East Scout Troop

Although the above site can guide you through all of the badges there are certain parts of the badges that it cant tell whether you have done them or not. for example it tell you how to make a poster but you then need to show your completed poster to your leaders.

When you have worked through all of the sections for a badge you should see something similar to this...

The next thing to do is click print to get your certificate...

As you can see my certificate only has a tick in one box! Ok so lets take this Task by Task;

Task one:

This is an actual "Doing Task" where you have to prove you can do something. In this case all you have to do is turn your computer on and off safely. To prove you can do this you have a few options you can either use a laptop on a meeting night and show your leaders, if you don't have a laptop you could ask your leaders if they had one available for you to show them on. If this is not possible and your leaders agree you could get your parents to watch you perform the task and let your leaders know that you have done it. One this is done you can get your leaders to mark it off on your certificate.

N.B. If you are going to use somebody else property you must always ask for before you use it or take it anywhere. It would also be a good idea to speak to your leaders before you turn up on a meeting night with any expensive/borrowed equipment.

Task Two:

Task Two is an online set of five questions which if answered correctly will put a tick on your certificate to say you have done them.

Task Three:

This task is a "Create Task" where you have to create a poster and show the finished poster to my Leader. When you have finished my poster you have two options you can either print the poster and show it to my Leaders on a meeting night OR

Beavers can Email it to BeaverBadge@Bradshawsg.com

Cubs can Email it to CubBadge@Bradshawsg.com

Scouts can Email it to ScoutBadge@Bradshawsg.com

If you decide to email your work in it will be sent to the leaders of that section and they can sign it off on your certificate.

REMEMBER to put the name of the badge you are doing in the Subject line of the email.

Task Four:

Task Four is another "Create Task" only this time you have to draw a picture using your computer. For information on how to get a "Create Task" signed off see Task Three above.

Task Five:

Task Five is another "Doing Task" only this time you have to show you can use a CD-ROM. For information on how to get a "Doing Task" signed off see Task Three above.

Finally

And thats all there is to it with the above information you should be able to work you way through as many of the Information Technology Badges as you want to. But if you do need any help you can email the Leaders on the email address at the bottom of this page.

Good Luck
